A woman was placed into custody Saturday morning at the end of an 18-hour standoff with a police SWAT team in the Edgewater Beach neighborhood.

She was arrested shortly about 6:55 a.m. in the 6100 block of North Winthrop Avenue, according to Chicago police spokesman Michael Carroll.

Police initially responded shortly after noon Friday to a call of a woman barricaded with a weapon, police said.

A SWAT team was called to the block and stayed there throughout the night.

The woman was not charged in connection with the incident, and was instead taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation, police said.
