Swarm of large bluebottle flies in closed shop gives shoppers 'the boak'

Mystery this week surrounded an apparent infestation of flies at a city centre shop premises.

Although the Trophy Centre, Upper Craigs, has been closed for several months its shop front window display had been swarming with hundreds of the insects, sparking fears of an environmental health scare.

Corpses of bluebottles can be seen scattered among trophies and plaques still on display in the window.

Passers-by have looked on in disgust and one was heard muttering: “I have been passing the window every day and it gives me the boak. Something should be done about it.”

Officers from Stirling Police Office attended at the store last week and with the help of a locksmith accessed the building but found “nothing untoward”.

Stirling Council declined to comment.
