Swansea venue where thousands have enjoyed weddings and celebration dinners is to have a new future

A venue where hundreds of people have married and which has hosted a variety of functions over the years is to become a business school.

Sketty Hall will be totally renovated if new development plans are approved.

The Grade II listed building, with its own grounds close to Singleton Park, will become home to a business school offering a range of professional courses as well as higher-level qualifications and degree apprenticeships.

The venue has belonged to Gower College Swansea since 1994, since when it has established a reputation as a popular venue for weddings, dinners and lunches.

It is also the site of the college’s accountancy courses.

But increased demand for all those courses means the college is planning to develop the site solely for teaching.

Mark Jones, principal of Gower College Swansea, said: “The renovation will allow us to capitalise on our already strong learning provision in these areas, enabling us to expand even further going forward.

“It will bring a new dimension to the college’s portfolio, offering a wide range of higher level and professional courses. It will also feature a new student social space, coffee bar and library.

“We are currently working with the local council, heritage consultants and wider college community to deliver a renovation that Swansea will be proud of and which will offer even more opportunities for our students.”

Gower College Swansea has submitted an application for capital funding - available through the Welsh Government for delivery of education - which, if successful, will allow the plans to be realised.

A college spokesman added that all guests and visitors had been consulted as part of the communications surrounding the new plans.
