Swansea University will suspend all face-to-face lectures and seminars until the end of term because of coronavirus.
The university, which has two campuses in the city, will cancel all face-to-face learning from Monday, March 23 until the end of the semester on Friday, May 1.
An email was sent out to students by pro vice-chancellor Professor Martin Stringer, on behalf of the university's senior management team, on Friday afternoon.
Teaching will continue as normal until the end of the day on Friday, March 20.
From March 23, the university has asked that "appropriate learning material and resources" are available online for students to continue with their studies.
The email also states plans are being put in place for supervision for postgraduate research students to take place remotely.
The library and other teaching and learning facilities will remain open, as will halls of residence.
The university has taken this decision as a precaution to "minimise the risk of coronavirus incidents" on its campuses.
The email says that the "health and wellbeing of the Swansea University community and wider communities within which we sit must be the primary concern for all if us at this time".
All students will be receiving further information directly from their college or school about what this decision means for their studies.
The email reads: "We appreciate that you will all be concerned about your studies.
"Please be reassured that we are working very closely with our academic community to ensure that you can all continue with your studies, undertake appropriate assessments and ultimately progress to the next stage of your University career.
"In particular, for those of you who are in the final year of your degree, we appreciate that this will be a worrying time.
"Please be reassured that we are committed to ensuring that students are still able to achieve to their full potential.
"We are actively considering plans for the forthcoming assessment period and we will update you shortly with information regarding this."
