Swansea's Parkrun route is changing to stop part of it feeling too congested

People taking part in the Swansea Bay Parkrun are being re-routed to ease potential congestion along the beach stretch.

A snapshot of the course reveals two changes have been put into place in an attempt to stop the area outside the Secret Beach Bar from becoming too busy.

The finishing straight has been moved and the route around Blackpill altered for the event on Saturday.

Mark Faulkner, event director, said: “Swansea Bay is beautiful, especially during the summer, and we are thinking ahead of the curve in providing it's safe for everyone.

“We wanted to take out any potential congestion with users on that particular stretch.

“We have thought about it for quite a while as much from a convenience point of view and to make it more enjoyable to go down to the parkrun.

“In the winter months, we still have lovely numbers. It’s so non-judgemental, you can walk and enjoy yourself.”

He added: “We have risk assessments now and we are constantly thinking about the course all the time. As an event director I want to make sure everyone is safe.”

The turn-point at Blackpill has been moved a bit further along the coast path to a new junction where runners will follow the tarmac path behind the Blackpill Wildlife Centre.

Marshals will be in place to make sure people stay on the tarmac path around the edge of the Lido.

Meanwhile, the finish will be along the far end of the promenade just before the Secret venue.
