Swansea's Liberty Stadium car park to be turned into coronavirus testing centre

Work on a coronavirus testing unit for health and social care staff is due to begin at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium next week.

Work on the drive-through unit, the second in the Swansea Bay area, is due to start on Wednesday, May 6. It is anticipated that it should be completed just two days later.

The six-lane facility will be able to test up to an additional 360 people every day. The site is designed to compliment another testing unit which opened at Margam in Port Talbot in early March.

The Margam unit currently has the capacity to test around 120 people a day.

The Liberty testing unit will be located in the VIP car park and will have its own dedicated vehicle entrance. Other car parking areas around the Liberty Stadium will not be affected.

The testing centre will be for health and social care staff attending by appointment only and not for the general public.

Swansea Bay University Health board said this second testing facility would allow easier access for health and social care staff living in the Swansea area and provided the option for increased capacity if that was required in line with the all Wales testing plan.
