Swansea's city centre has changed noticeably during lockdown

While most people living in Swansea have been staying at home during lockdown developments in the city centre have continued.

There are some major developments in the city that are still on track for completion despite delays to construction during the coronavirus pandemic.

As the residents of Swansea emerge from lockdown they'll notice major structures are springing up around the city.

With the introduction of two-way traffic on The Kingsway coming in on July 26, the people of Swansea are promised a greener, more accessible and modern city centre.

Here's the latest on how the major developments in the centre of Swansea are shaping up.

The steel skeleton of Swansea's 3,500-capacity indoor arena continues to climb its way upward adjacent to Oystermouth Road.

The frames for the building started going up in April as part of Swansea council's £135m Swansea Central phase one transformation scheme.

Construction has continued during lockdown on the arena and the multi-storey car park opposite. The council expects the first phase of the project to be completed by the second half of 2021.

In just the last month major progress has been made on the multi-storey situated on the former St Mary's car park site.

A coastal park will be created as part of the project and this, along with the arena, will sit above a large car park providing plenty of parking for events at the new arena.

Over the other side of the city, and towering above Swansea railway station, is the city's latest student development.

The imposing 17-storey tower, in Mariner Street, is likely to catch the eye of commuters and arriving students coming into the city via the station in High Street.

Speaking about the development previously, council leader Rob Stewart said the £65m privately-funded scheme will bring new businesses to the city centre.
