Swansea pensioner died after falling from bridge onto the M4

Police have confirmed a pensioner died after falling from a bridge onto the M4 yesterday afternoon.

South Wales Police said a 70-year-old man from Swansea died following the incident , which happened at around 3pm between junction 45 and junction 44 of the M4 at Llansamlet.

The force has said the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokeswoman said: "We received reports of a man falling from a bridge onto the M4 between J45-J44 yesterday at about 2.55pm.

"Emergency services attended and the road was closed for some time.

"A 70-year-old man, from Penlan died and his next of kin have been informed. His death is not being treated as suspicious and will be referred to the HM Coroner.

"We would like to thank the public for their patience during this incident."

Both east and west lanes of the M4 were closed for a time while police and other emergency services worked at the scene.
