Swansea MP Yasmin Catley calls on NSW government to reinstate vaccines at Belmont hub

Outraged: Swansea MP Yasmin Catley has called for vaccine bookings to be reinstated at the Belmont hub.

Swansea MP Yasmin Catley has called for Premier Gladys Berejiklian to overturn the NSW government's decision to cancel Pfizer appointments at the Belmont mass vaccination hub.

Ms Catley, the Shadow Minister for the Hunter, said those in priority groups under the vaccine phase 1b - such as those with health conditions - should get their bookings back immediately.

She said those who had second shots booked should also have their appointments reinstated as "a matter of priority".

In a bureaucratic bungle, people with health conditions and bookings for second shots received messages from NSW Health on Saturday stating that their appointments for Pfizer jabs at the Belmont hub had been cancelled.

NSW Health had claimed that these priority groups would not have their bookings rescheduled, but this was exposed as false as many affected people had their bookings cancelled.

The NSW government has taken vaccines away from the Belmont hub to give to Year 12 students in eight local government areas most affected by the COVID-19 Delta variant.

Ms Catley has also called for the Central Coast to have its vaccines reinstated.

In a letter to Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Ms Catley said: "The Central Coast is still under lockdown".

"We can only assume the government has made a mistake to redirect the supply of Pfizer vaccine from one LGA [local government area] under lockdown to another," she said, in a joint letter with other Central Coast MPs.

"The decision to cancel these appointments has provoked mass outrage amongst the community, who feel they are being treated as second class citizens."
