Swansea marina fire: Boat bursts into flames as police called to scene

A large fire has broken out at a marina in Wales after a boat burst into flames.

Pictures and footage from Swansea Marina show huge plumes of smoke and flames after the blaze took hold of a vessel on Monday morning. The fire is understood to have then spread to another boat.

An image from the scene shows two burnt-out boats surrounded by others which did not appear to be damaged by the fire, which started around 11.45am.

Firefighters from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service received a report of smoke in the Maritime Quarter, Wales Online reports.

A spokesperson for the fire service confirmed two boats were destroyed in the blaze. Police also attended to assist with the safety of people in the area.

There is no indication at this stage as to whether the fire was thought to be started deliberately or not.

Social media users said the fire was quickly brought under control. One tweeted: "Brought under control fairly efficiently, from what I can make out from a distance."

Swansea Marina and South Wales Police were approached for comment by Wales Online.
