Swansea have had no contact from Newcastle about Freddie Woodman's future amid Arsenal interest

Swansea boss Steve Cooper says he has had no contact from Newcastle regarding the future of Freddie Woodman.

The former England under-21 international goalkeeper has impressed on loan at the Swans this term and has reportedly attracted the interest of Arsenal, as the Gunners look to bolster their goalkeeping options this month.

Woodman, who signed a new three-year deal at Newcastle, is currently behind Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow in the Magpies' pecking order but is highly rated at St James' Park.

Newcastle see him as the club's future number one and will certainly have been impressed by his 14 clean sheets in 23 Championship appearances.

But given his form, as well as the fact both Darlow and Dubravka have both impressed between the sticks in recent years, it is felt something may have to give in the goalkeeping department at Newcastle in the next summer transfer window.

However, as far as Woodman's future this month goes, Swansea have received no word from the Magpies, as he prepares for the Swans' FA Cup fourth round tie with Nottingham Forest as usual.

When asked if Newcastle had made contact regarding Woodman's situation, Cooper responded: "No. Nothing at all.

"Newcastle have been good through the 18 months he’s been with us in terms of communication.

"But in terms of anything official from Swansea’s point of view we’ve not heard a thing."

Woodman has long been heralded as a future star at Newcastle and was part of the England under-20s side who won the World Cup back in 2017.

The 23-year-old is enjoying a second loan spell at Swansea after previous loan spells with Aberdeen, Kilmarnock, Crawley and Hartlepool.
