Swansea Grand Theatre's traditional Christmas pantomime has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was going to be this year's seasonal offering but it has now been postponed until the following year.
The last time the theatre didn't host a pantomime was 70 years ago when it acted as a cinema for a short period of time.
Swansea Grand's pantomime has been a firm fixture of the festive calendar for families every single year since 1947, and in 2019 it received rave reviews for its production of Peter Pan.
Swansea Council's cabinet member for investment, regeneration and tourism, Robert Francis-Davies, said: "We are disappointed that we won't be able to provide the usual offering that so many visitors and residents look forward to every year. However, we are working to make sure that Snow White in 2021/22 will be a spectacular occasion.
"While it is sad that there will be no panto this year, this has been a necessary decision, which is also in line with decisions being taken by many other major theatres across the country in relation to pantomimes. It will help keep the virus at bay and our communities safe."
It is Swansea council's intention to re-open the Grand Theatre when it is safe to do so following guidance from the Welsh Government and Public Health Wales.
All existing bookings will be transferred to next year and the theatre's box office staff are contacting ticket holders to confirm the details and offer options.
The theatre has published a list on its website of the original dates, and the dates bookings will be transferred to next year.
