Swansea football side Morriston Town FC handed closure notice for clubhouse after coronavirus rules breach

A Swansea sports club was told to close for failing to comply with coronavirus regulations - on the day tighter lockdown restrictions came into force before Christmas shutting most of the country down.

Morriston Town FC was issued with a closure notice on December 22 following a visit to the premises on Clydach Road by licensing and police officers.

The notice meant the club had to close immediately, and would not be allowed to reopen until it had implemented a series of social distancing measures - including installing barriers and screens, controlling use of passageways and shared areas, and providing personal protective equipment.

The notice - which can be viewed here - came on the same day as new restrictions came into effect across Wales.

Under Welsh Government Alert Level 4 rules, the public are expected to stay at home and not travel without a reasonable excuse.

And bars, clubs and restaurants are only allowed open for takeaway services only.

The deadline for Morriston FC to have made the changes to allow it to re-open is January 5.

However, the day before the Welsh Government is to review its Alert Level 4 guidelines, which could potentially see the restrictions extended.
