Swansea City youngster Cian Harries completes loan move to Fortuna Sittard

Young Swansea City defender Cian Harries has completed a season-long loan move to Eredivisie side Fortuna Sittard.

The 22-year old centre-back made his senior Swans debut in the Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace last year, and made his league debut two months later against Aston Villa.

Harries also appeared three times in the Swans' run to the FA Cup quarter-finals last season, where they were controversially knocked out by Manchester City.

It remains to be seen whether Harries still has a future at the Liberty Stadium, with his current deal in SA1 running out next summer.

Boss Steve Cooper is keen to continue the good work of his predecessors in bringing through new and exciting young players.

Speaking about his plans for development, he said: “Giving academy players opportunities has worked well for the club in the past and I would love it if it can continue to work well in the future.

“As you know, it’s something close to my heart and I want to be giving players opportunities. If players are good enough then they should have those opportunities.”

He joins a Fortuna side that finished 15th in the Dutch top flight this season, and could come against former Swans duo Leroy Fer and Luciano Narsingh, both of whom joined Dutch giants Feyenoord in the summer.

There could yet be further exits at the Liberty Stadium, with questions still hanging over the futures of Andre Ayew and Borja Baston ahead of the close of the European window on September 2.
