Swansea City yet to approach QPR assistant John Eustace over manager vacancy

Swansea City are yet to make contact with QPR about interviewing assistant manager John Eustace to become their new boss.

The Welsh side are on the hunt for a new manager after Graham Potter left the club to take charge of Brighton, who parted ways with Chris Hughton earlier this month.

Swansea are drawing up a shortlist of names for the job and Eustace has emerged as a contender.

After the sacking of Steve McClaren in April, the 39-year-old was named caretaker boss by QPR and he ensured the club avoided relegation from the Championship.

Following the appointment of Mark Warburton as manager, however, Eustace has returned to his role as assistant manager.

Eustace’s work as a caretaker has attracted the attention of Swansea, though, with the club looking to appoint someone who can develop young players.

Eustace would fit that remit, while he also has experience of being a manager after spending two years in charge of Kidderminster Harriers.

However, Standard Sport understands QPR have had no contact from Swansea to speak to Eustace about filling their managerial vacancy.

The club’s hierarchy have been impressed with the former midfielder’s work since he joined last summer and it was telling that he remained in place following the appointment of Warburton.

“I know John from my time at Watford,” said Warburton at his unveiling last week.

“There is no doubts about his qualities as a character and his desire for the game. He will be a very important member of the team.”
