Swansea City v Luton Town called off amid Covid cases in hosts' squad

Swansea City’s Championship match against Luton Town on December 29 has been postponed.

The game had been due to take place on Wednesday at 7pm at the Swansea.com Stadium.

But the Swans announced on Christmas Eve that the match would not go ahead as scheduled, with Covid cases combined with injuries meaning they could not field a matchday squad.

It comes after Swansea's Boxing Day fixture against Millwall was postponed due to several members from the Lions' camp testing positive for coronavirus.

Swans manager Russell Martin said on Wednesday that the squad had two positive Covid cases but this number has now increased.

It means the SA1 outfit won't be in action until January 3 at home to Fulham.

A Swansea statement said: "This [postponement] is due to an additional number of positive Covid-19 cases within the playing squad.

"The club has worked hard to try and ensure it would be able to fulfil the fixture, however, taking into account injuries and positive Covid-19 cases, the club does not have a sufficient number of players available.

"Any rearranged date will be confirmed in due course, while Swansea City will automatically refund supporters who have purchased streaming passes for this fixture."
