Swansea City Under-23s coach Gary Richards leaves club days after Cameron Toshack exit

Gary Richards has left his role as coach of Swansea City's Under-23s.

It comes just days after Cameron Toshack departed to join Cypriot outfit Pafos FC.

The 56-year-old worked alongside Toshack for the last four seasons and led Swansea's young guns to Premier League Cup and Professional Development League 1 Division 2 glory in the 2016/17 campaign.

A host of stars including Daniel James, Oli McBurnie, Matt Grimes, Joe Rodon and Connor Roberts have made the step up from the youth system to Swansea's first team during Richards' time at the club.

In a statement, chairman Trevor Birch said: “Everyone at Swansea City would like to thank Gary for his fantastic service to the club over the years and wish him well for the future.”

The Welshman started his professional career with hometown club Swansea in the 1980s, making 84 appearances over a four-year period before leaving to join Swedish side Jankopings Sodra.

He went on to have spells with Lincoln City, Cambridge United, Torquay United, Newport County, Llanelli, Saltash United, Forest Green Rovers, Barry Town and Haverfordwest County.

Richards is expected to be officially announced as a coach alongside Toshack at Pafos FC this week.
