Swansea City transfers: Celtic make offer to departing star and Swans face stumbling block in striker race

Here are the latest transfer headlines from the Liberty Stadium for Monday, June 7.

Celtic eyeing Ayew

Scottish giants Celtic are reportedly keen on a move for Andre Ayew this summer.

The Ghanaian is a free agent after seeing out his contract at the Liberty Stadium, and is understood to currently be back in his homeland ahead of choosing his next move.

The forward, who netted 17 goals for the Swans in his final season, has already received a number of offers ahead of the upcoming campaign.

According to GhanaSoccerNet, one such offer is from Celtic, who are looking for a potential replacement for Odsonne Edouard, with the striker looking increasingly likely to leave Celtic Park this summer.

Henry update emerges

Swansea are interested in a move for Leuven striker Thomas Henry, but may well be priced out of a move this summer.

Henry, who's previously been linked with Leicester, netted 21 goals for his club last season, and is understood to be on the radar at the Liberty Stadium.

Reports in Belgium over the weekend suggested the Swans were closing in on a potential move, but with Swansea unlikely to splash the cash this summer, there are already doubts around the feasibility of any potential deal.

Sources at the club haven't categorically ruled out a move, but there is a feeling that the Frenchman is now likely to be out of their price range this summer.

Peybernes on the radar again

Swansea are also believed to have shown an interest in French centre-back Mathieu Peybernes.

The Almeria defender was linked with a move to Nottingham Forest and the Swans in the last summer window, and sources out in Spain claim there is still some interest from South Wales.

However, there are understood to be several other options on the table, with the player himself believed to be keen on a move to Real Zaragoza, where he recently spent a reasonably successful loan spell.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, he is negotiating “a friendly termination” of his contract with Almeria, which has a year left to run, and is hoping to sign a two-year deal with Zaragoza..

Daniel James makes Man United admission

Former Swansea winger Daniel James admits he's yet to hit top form for Manchester United.

James played just 26 times for United last season, and has frequently seen his future at Old Trafford become the subject of speculation, with Leeds United among his long-term admirers.

The winger has flown out to Baku with Wales this week, and is expected to play an important role in Rob Page's plans for Euro 2020.

And, speaking to the club’s official website, James admits says he's determined to have a much greater influence at Old Trafford next season, and believes he is already getting better.

“I’m developing every single game. I’m learning.

“I reflect on every game and every season I’ve played, whether I’ve played zero minutes, whether I play all the games, I think I’m always learning.

“For me, I’m nowhere near my potential and I just want to keep improving.”
