Swansea City transfers: Celtic given Andre Ayew boost, Swans close in on Rangers target as West Brom twist pulls Steve Cooper back in

The latest Swansea City news, views and gossip from the Liberty.

Swans close in on striker

Swansea are closing in on the signature of Wigan striker Kyle Joseph.

WalesOnline reported earlier this month that the Swans were in advanced talks to sign the Scottish youngster, who was being tracked by Celtic, Rangers, Newcastle United and Tottenham, among others.

And now it appears Swansea have won the race for her services, with a deal expected to be announced in the coming days.

The Swans are determined to bolster their forward options ahead of the 2021/22 season and identified Joseph as a transfer target.

Swansea monitored the 19-year-old's situation in January but are now bidding to make the youngster their first signing of the summer transfer window.

Joseph is out of contract this month but was offered fresh terms by the Latics. Should Swans sign the forward, they would have to pay Wigan a compensation fee, as he is under the age of 24. The figure has yet to be determined.

Celtic given boost in Ayew tussle

Scottish giants Celtic have today announced Ange Postecoglou as their new manager, giving their transfer planning a much-needed boost.

Reports in Turkey state that the Hoops face a battle for Andre Ayew's services from Fenerbahce, with whom Ayew spent a season on loan from Swansea.

Now a free agent, both teams are said to be pursuing a deal for the 31-year-old, with wages likely to be the sticking point.

Ayew was on a reported £80,000 a week contract in SA1, and do his contract status would likely demand a similar pay packet with his new employers.

Swans face Walsh competition

Swansea will have to beat off competition from other suitors if they are to land Liam Walsh this summer.

The former Everton man is another free agent, with his contract with Bristol City having elapsed.

He endured an injury-plagued season with the Robins, featuring just three times, but performed well while on loan with Coventry the previous term.

The Sky Blues are likely to be contenders for his signature. It was reported yesterday that Swansea were "in talks" with Walsh, with an update provided by Swans correspondent Ian Mitchelmore.

Thomas Henry continues to be of interest to Swansea, although finances are likely to be a barrier to any deal.

Baggies twist

West Brom are back to square one after ending their pursuit of David Wagner.

The German manager was expected to take the reins at The Hawthorns following the departure of Sam Allardyce at the end of the season.

Chris Wilder was the heavy favourite, but Wagner was believed to be the Chinese ownership's number-one target. But he is now expected to become manager of BSC Young Boys in Switzerland.

The twist brings Swansea's Steve Cooper back in the mix, who was, according to national reports, ruled out by the hierarchy due to the fact West Brom would have to pay Swansea a compensation fee should they wish to lure the head coach to the Midlands.

Wilder, Michael Appleton, Alex Neil and Derek McInnes are all ahead of Cooper in the bookies' pecking order, however.

Cooper remains favourite for the Crystal Palace job, though.
