Swansea City transfer news as Swans linked with 'next Jamie Vardy' and Chiedozie Ogbene makes future statement

These are your Swansea City headlines on Tuesday, March 28.

Swans linked with 'next Jamie Vardy'

Swansea City have been credited with interest in the ‘next Jamie Vardy’.

Bromley's 18-year-old Kellen Fisher, who plays at right-back, has attracted admiring glances from Premier League duo Brentford and Wolves.

Swansea and Championship rivals Hull City are also reportedly keen on the teenager, state the Sun.

The same publication state 10 clubs were watching Bromley’s match against Yeovil at the weekend.

Scouts were said to be keeping tabs on the youngster, who signed a new three-year deal last month.

The same report pointed towards a similar career trajectory as Leicester striker Jamie Vardy, who started his footballing journey in non-League before making it all the way to the Premier League and earning international honours with England.

Ogbene wanted by Euro side

Belgian side Standard Liege are showing interest in Rotherham United’s Chiedozie Ogbene.

Ogbene was described as Swansea’s number-one transfer target last January, with head coach Russell Martin a big fan of the Republic of Ireland international.

As well documented, Swansea’s winter transfer window didn’t go to plan at all, with hopes fading over the course of the month that a deal could be done for the attacker.

Out of contract this summer, Ogbene will have his pick of clubs, with Standard keen to strengthen in "various offensive sectors".

They are also interested in Reading forward Yakou Méïté.

Obgene said after Ireland's defeat to France on Monday night that he wanted to move up a level.

"I've always said I want to go to the next level," he said after the 1-0 defeat to the World Cup runners-up.

"Sometimes you don't play well and you start doubting yourself. But when I can put performances in like this, it gives me the belief that maybe I can be effective at the next level and that's my dream and so it keeps my dream alive."

Cullen left out

Swansea striker Liam Cullen has been left out of Rob Page’s 23-man squad for tonight’s game against Latvia in Cardiff.

Page has gone with the same players who were picked against Croatia in Split on Saturday.

It means Cullen and Cardiff striker Mark Harris won’t see action this evening - heartening news for their club managers at least, with the South Wales derby up next for both men.

Stroud to whistle the derby

Staying with the derby, Keith Stroud has been appointed the man in the middle when Swansea head east on Saturday afternoon.

He will be assisted by Sam Lewis and Nigel Lugg, while Andy Woolmer is the fourth official.

Stroud has officiated in two Swansea games so far this season - the others being the 3-1 victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light and the 3-0 home win over Hull City last September.
