Swansea City transfer news as new man arrives and Greek star can leave for 'reasonable offer'

These are the latest Swansea City headlines on Tuesday, June 28.

Blythe signs on

Swansea have confirmed the signing of Ben Blythe from Doncaster Rovers.

The centre-back has signed a two-year deal, with the option of another 12 months. The 20-year-old will go into the club's under-21 ranks.

He came through at Leeds United before joining the Dons as a scholar. After rising through the age-frade sides, he made a six appearances for the club last term.

He's now swapped the north of England for south Wales and says the move will help mature as a player and person.

“I’m very excited and I can’t wait to get started. I’m really looking forward to it,” said Blythe.

“Everyone at the club has made me feel very welcome and part of the family already. The facilities are spot on so I’m just buzzing to be here. The style of play is very different to what I’ve been used to around first-team football, but I think this sort of style suits me.

“I was watching an interview with the manager who said something like ‘we can play the way we want to play, or I can go and sign three big centre-halves’. For me that’s really promising because that tells me that as long as you can play football and keep the ball away from the opponents, that’s what he’s bothered about the most.

“I’m comfortable on the ball and I want to get on the ball, and that’s what the gaffer likes, so hopefully I’ll settle in pretty quickly. I’ve had a good wander around Swansea. Me and my girlfriend are moving down and we really like it, we’ve settled in really well to be honest.

“I’m enjoying being further away from home. It’s giving me a chance to grow up and do things for myself because mum and dad aren’t just around the corner anymore so I think mentally it will improve me as a person.”

Greek star can leave for 'reasonable offer'

Reports in Turkey state Dimitrios Pelkas can leave Fenerbahçe if the club receive a "reasonable offer".

Swansea and QPR have been credited by European reports with interest in the 28-year-old attacker.

The Turkish giants are now said to be tracking Matias Vargas, thus rendering Pelkas surplus to requirements, adding the player "will part ways with a reasonable offer".

Pelkas can work as a winger or in the number 10 position and has been capped 26 times for Greece.

Youngster signs first pro deal

Swansea youngster Joel Cotterill has signed his first pro deal with the club. The move is just reward for the 17-year-old, who was named on the first-team bench twice last season.

His first professional contract is a two-year deal and comes after he spent a week away with the squad at Pennyhill Park.

"I'm overwhelmed, I have been with the club so long and it's a dream come true for me," said Cotterill.

"But the challenge for me now is to keep pushing forward, to keep working hard for those opportunities.

"I was on the bench for the first team towards the end of last season and that just gives you that extra bit of hunger. I've had that during the off-season, I've been working hard to get better, and it's certainly given me that extra little bit of energy.

"It doesn't stop here, obviously I am really pleased to have signed a pro deal, but I have to make sure that means something and I do enough to make the most of it.

"I have to work to get better every day. The dream is to play for the first team, I have been away at Pennyhill Park and being around the players and the gaffer and his staff; it's just such a good environment to be in.

"It's early in pre-season and I want to do well and give myself a good base to carry into the season."
