Swansea City transfer news as Burnley remain interested in Michael Obafemi and Norwich City to name new boss

Your Swansea City headlines on Wednesday, January 4.

Clarets remain interested in Michael Obafemi

Burnley remain interested in Swansea City's Michael Obafemi, WalesOnline understands.

The Clarets had multiple bids for the forward rejected by the Swans last summer, with the highest of those offers falling way short of the club's valuation.

However, Vincent Kompany is determined to bolster his striker options this month - with Republic of Ireland international Obafemi once again understood to be on his shortlist.

Obafemi - who is under contract at the Swansea.com Stadium until the summer of 2024 - has scored just three times in 19 club appearances so far this season. He is yet to feature for Swansea since the World Cup break while he was omitted from the matchday squads against both Watford and Burnley.

Former Swans Viktor Gyokeres and Sam Surridge - who are now at Coventry City and Nottingham Forest respectively - and Bristol City's Antoine Semenyo are also among those thought to be of interest to the current Championship leaders.

Swans can 'still come good'

Swansea can still challenge the Championship play-offs if they can add to their squad in January, according to pundit Sam Parkin.

The Swans impressed in each of their most recent two matches, thumping Watford 4-0 before being edged out 2-1 by league leaders Burnley on Monday.

And Parkin is confident that Russell Martin's men can produce their best form if they can conduct some positive business this month.

"I think they've improved," Parkin said on ITV's EFL highlights show. "I think there's still clearly an inconsistency there. The results show that.

"I think he'd (Martin) say that his squad is not exactly where he wants it to be. There's a few problem positions, out wide, wing-back. He'll still want a bit more of a goal threat and maybe a bit more pace in the forward areas.

"Swansea have matched the best team (Burnley) in the division right now. They absolutely battered Watford last time out. They've put in two really good displays against two of the bigger and more powerful sides in the division.

"So, I think, with a little bit of wriggle room in January, they can still come good this season."

Wagner to take Canaries role

David Wagner is expected to be appointed as Norwich City's new manager.

The Canaries sacked Dean Smith in December, and Swans boss Russell Martin was swiftly named as a contender for the Carrow Road vacancy.

However, Norwich are now set to name former Huddersfield Town boss Wagner as their new head coach.

The Norfolk outfit are currently 11th, although they are just three points adrift of the play-off places with 20 league fixtures left to play.
