Swansea City transfer news as boss exit throws attacker's future up in the air and pundit says Swans 'have turned corner'

These are your Swansea City headlines on Thursday, September 22.

Warne exit puts Ogbene future in focus

Rotherham United manager Paul Warne has left the club to take up the reins at Derby County.

Warne has swapped the Championship for League One in a surprise move which surfaced on Wednesday evening. His departure was confirmed on Thursday which will now put a question mark over Chiedozie Ogbene's future at the club.

He said while on international duty with the Republic of Ireland that he is keen to play at the highest level possible, with Swansea head coach Russell Martin a keen admirer of the the versatile man.

Ogbene revealed Warne had spoken to him about remaining with The Millers but that could all change now the manager has left for Pride Park.

“I didn’t come close at all to leaving last month,” he explained. “The manager sat me down and said he wanted to keep me. I was happy to be getting the opportunity to play football every week.

“If something came in that I, my family and the club were happy with, we'd have to consider it but nothing came. Rotherham haven't really come to me about a new deal. I have told them I want to push for the next step and they know my desire is to push on.”

Roberts: Swans have turned corner

BBC pundit Iwan Roberts believes Swansea have "turned a corner" following the 3-0 win over Hull City last weekend.

It has been a flat start to the season results-wise for Martin and his players, throwing away games late on in the day on numerous occasions. That wasn't the case against the Tigers, however, and Roberts can see light at the end of the tunnel.

"They (Hull) had lost their last three, I don't think they scored in those three games, the worst defensive record in the league," said Roberts to Elis James on the latest edition of Feast of Football podcast. "After a decent start, they beat Norwich in the second game of the season, I look at you (Swansea) at home now and it's been a tough few months for you at the Swansea.com Stadium, not winning games, losing games, but you look like you've turned a corner.

"It was a really good win against QPR, slightly different approach to the way Swans play, very unlucky against Sheffield United last week, should have got something from that game. And it could have been seven or eight against Hull."
