Swansea City transfer headlines as Sheffield United defender eyed amid Middlesbrough interest in Jake Bidwell and Man Utd starlet completes medical

Swansea City are eyeing a loan move for Sheffield United full-back Max Lowe - but only if Jake Bidwell is sold this summer.

Reports in the national press have linked Neil Warnock's Middlesbrough with a move for Bidwell, in a move that could earn the Swans around £2.5m, although it's understood that Boro are yet to firm up interest with a concrete approach.

With the club facing up to financial realities of going without parachute payments ahead of another season in English football's second tier, question marks remain over some of the team's more saleable assets.

Captain Matt Grimes has attracted attention from Fulham, and sources have previously indicated that a departure is likely, although the club retain hopes of keeping him in south Wales.

Connor Roberts too has been touted as a possible departure, with Brentford the latest side to be linked.

But while he has attracted interest, Swansea are (at the time of writing) yet to receive any bid for Bidwell, although they are seemingly sounding out possible replacements should they receive an acceptable offer.

It's understood that Lowe has emerged as a possible contender to come in, with sources indicating that the Swans may well step up interest in the 24-year-old should Bidwell be sold.

The early indications suggest that any move for Lowe would be a season-long loan move.

Meanwhile, the club are on the verge of confirming a move for attacking right-back Ethan Laird on loan from Manchester United.

Laird was in attendance at the Swansea.com Stadium on Saturday night to take in the Swans' 0-0 draw with Sheffield United, and is understood to have completed a medical ahead of a reunion with boss Russell Martin, whom he worked under at MK Dons.

Reports elsewhere had suggested that Blackpool were looking at a possible last-ditch move to take him away from under the noses of the Swans, but he is now poised to become the club's sixth signing of the summer, with confirmation likely within the next 24 hours.
