Swansea City transfer headlines as McAtee talks scheduled for next week and target set for Middlesbrough move

Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City transfer headlines for Wednesday, January 5.

No decision yet on McAtee

Manchester City have not yet decided to let James McAtee leave on loan this winter.

Swansea remain keen on a deal for the 19-year-old, who's one of several youngsters highly rated by Pep Guardiola, but there are currently no guarantees he will be allowed to leave the Etihad this month.

City have previously shown reluctance to let the attacking midfielder out on loan, believing his development would benefit more from being around their galaxy of first team stars.

There has been some suggestion that their stance may well have softened recently. But, while nothing seems off the table, Man City are yet to give the green light on a loan exit.

Bournemouth and QPR are among the other clubs known to be monitoring the situation, while reports in the national press have also suggested that Southampton could also be keen, although sources in the north-west have since played down the possibility of a move to St Mary's.

It's understood there's a strong chance McAtee could be involved in the upcoming FA Cup tie with Swindon Town on Friday night, with discussions over his future likely to happen early next week.

Joseph recalled

Swansea City have recalled forward Kyle Joseph from his loan spell at Cheltenham Town.

The 20-year-old arrived at the Swansea.com Stadium last summer, but has been plying his trade with the League One outfit this season.

Joseph has netted four goals in 22 appearances for the Robins, and will be in contention for the upcoming trip to Huddersfield Town, but won't be eligible for the FA Cup clash with Southampton as he's cup-tied.

Nevertheless, there's every chance he may end up adding to his tally of two appearances for the Swans, with the forward now likely to play a part in Russell Martin's squad for the second half of the season.

Balogun closing in on Middlesbrough move

Swansea target Folarin Balogun is reportedly set to join Championship side Middlesbrough until the end of the season.

According to The Express, a loan move to take the 20-year-old to Teesside is set to be completed before the end of the week.

The Swans were among an number of clubs believed to be interested in the Arsenal youngster, while Bournemouth were also keeping tabs on the striker.

But Chris Wilder, who has also been a keen admirer, and even tried to sign him when he was still in charge at Sheffield United, appears to have won the race for the starlet's signature.

Indeed, Wilder's long-term enthusiasm for a move is believed to have been a decisive factor in Balogun's decision to move to the Riverside.
