Swansea City transfer headlines as club hold talks to sign midfielder monitored by Liverpool

Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City headlines for Friday, December 31.

Swansea in talks for MK Dons star

Swansea City are in talks to sign MK Dons midfielder Matt O'Riley.

O'Riley has attracted the interest of former boss Russell Martin, having worked worked under him last season, and there is a growing sense of confidence that a deal can be done.

Bournemouth, Barnsley, Middlesbrough and Huddersfield are among the other clubs believed to have taken an interest in the 20-year-old, who has attracted admiring glances from all over Europe.

PSV Eindhoven, Bordeaux and an unnamed Serie A club are also said to have taken a look at the midfielder, although a move abroad is understood to be unlikely, with the financial and logistical realities of Covid continuing to bite.

Liverpool are also understood to have previously monitored the youngster, who was once heralded as one of the brightest young prospects in Fulham's academy before making the move to Buckinghamshire.

However, a move to Anfield is, again, believed to be unlikely.

It's understood O'Riley's potential suitors have been impressed by his numbers, which have dazzled data analysts and caused him to emerge as one of the brightest prospects outside the Premier League.

However, the chance to work with Martin has seemingly placed Swansea at the front of the queue, and sources have stated that there could well be movement on the deal within the next few days.

Responding to recent speculation, the player himself recently said: “Even when it's not transfer news, there is always someone saying something - that's just football and the industry we're in. We have to deal with that noise, but as you get older and play more games, you learn to deal with it in a more controlled way which is better for your mental health.

“If I go onto the pitch and I'm thinking I'm moving here or there, it's not going to be good for anyone out there with me.

“I'm here and I'm ready to play and do whatever I can to make sure the team wins.”

Leeds make call on Greenwood

Swansea City remain keen on young Leeds United striker Sam Greenwood, but face competition from several other Championship sides.

The Swans have seen bids to take the youngster on loan knocked back in the last two transfer windows, with previous boss Steve Cooper a big admirer of the 19-year-old.

It remains to be seen whether Cooper, the current Nottingham Forest boss, will revive that interest, but Swansea are believed to still be interested, and are among four Championship sides monitoring the situation.

There is also believed to be interest from Scotland, although nothing is likely to happen until Leeds' FA Cup clash with West Ham United next week.

Russell Martin's style of football is likely to strengthen Swansea's hand should they wish to make a move, and potentially land the striker at the third time of asking, but nothing appears imminent at this stage.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is a big fan of the teenager, and has previously been insistent on keeping him around the first team picture, believing it to be more valuable in helping his development.

But he has seemingly softened that stance, and is now believed to be more open to the idea of Greenwood playing regular first team football in the second tier.

Latibeaudiere potentially on the move

Joel Latibeaudiere could well be one of those loaned out this January.

Clubs in the Championship, League One and Scotland are understood to have taken an interest in the defender, and there's a growing willingness to let him go out in the upcoming window.

The defender has made just seven starts in the league this season, and is believed to be increasingly frustrated by the apparent lack of first team opportunities.

The player is understood to still be in Russell Martin's long-term plans, but there's a real feeling that a stint away, playing regular first team football, could be beneficial to his development.

Cooper moves for Davis

Former Swansea City boss Steve Cooper is set to make Aston Villa forward Keinan Davis his first signing as Nottingham Forest boss.

Davis was the subject of interest from Cooper when the Welshmanwas still in the Swans hotseat, and it seems his admiration for the 23-year-old has continued into his new post.

Reports in the East Midlands suggest Davis is poised to undergo a medical today ahead of a prospective loan until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old has made more than 30 Premier League appearances and almost 40 Championship showings in his short career, but has fallen out of favour at Villa Park, making just one Premier League appearance this season.
