Swansea City to sign former Bristol City attacker Jamie Paterson

Swansea City are set to sign free agent Jamie Paterson.

The 29-year-old was released by Bristol City following the conclusion of the 2020/21 campaign.

And Russell Martin is poised to make the attacking midfielder his first capture at Swansea.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's clash with Blackburn Rovers, Martin admitted he was determined to bolster his squad prior to the August 31 transfer deadline.

He confirmed that the Swans would bring in recruits on a permanent and a loan basis.

Paterson's arrival will give Swansea some much-needed attacking impetus following the departures of players including Conor Hourihane and Andre Ayew in the summer.

The former Walsall, Nottingham Forest, Huddersfield Town, Bristol City and Derby County man can operate in a wide position or as a number 10.

He recently had a trial with Championship rivals Middlesbrough but is now expected to move to the Liberty Stadium on a free transfer.

The Swans have already added Kyle Joseph, Joel Piroe and Liam Walsh to their ranks this summer.

Swansea are also interested in Manchester United defender Ethan Laird while they have been touted with a swoop for Dundee United striker Lawrence Shankland.
