Swansea City to hold Andre Ayew talks as Steve Cooper reveals forward's training ground impact

Steve Cooper says Swansea City will hold talks with Andre Ayew once the current campaign has come to an end.

The Ghana international was widely expected to depart the Liberty Stadium on a permanent basis last summer, although he committed his future to the Swans after a transfer failed to materialise.

Following Swansea's 1-0 win over Bristol City, Ayew stated that he is happy at the club.

However, given his hefty wages, Ayew - who has one year left to run on his contract with Swansea - could well leave the club this summer.

And Steve Cooper says he'll hold discussions with the attacker in due course, although he believes the frontman's focus is firmly on Reading as Swansea look to secure a play-off place on the final day of the regular season this week.

"I'm sure we'll have that conversation again, but now it's just about Wednesday, " he said.

"He's fully focused on that and I'm fully focused on that. Let's not let any thoughts interfere with getting it right on Wednesday."

Ayew has been a shining light under Cooper, scoring 17 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions since returning from a season-long loan spell with Fenerbahce.

His experience has also been vital in what is a very young group of players, several of which have come through Swansea's own academy.

And head coach Cooper admits he's been fortunate to work with the man who returned to South Wales from West Ham in January 2018.

"I can't speak highly enough of him. He's not on his own, with Nathan [Dyer], Wayne [Routledge], Kyle [Naughton], Erwin [Mulder] etc," he added.

"The older players are a real credit to themselves and the football club.

"Andre's been really great hasn't he. You've all seen him on the pitch and the contribution he's made and the energy levels that he gives. He leads by example when he's playing and when he's training.

"He's a very good person and a really good professional. It's been brilliant to see how a top player operates, so I can't speak highly enough of him. I just hope he does the business again on Wednesday."

Kick-off against Reading at the Madejski Stadium is at 7:30pm on Wednesday.
