Swansea City to deal early transfer blow to Leeds United and Bristol City in loan for Liverpool striker

Swansea City look set to deal an early transfer blow to Bristol City with the loan signing of Rhian Brewster.

A host of Championship clubs, including the Robins and Leeds United, had been linked with the Liverpool youngster, who has been made available for loan this month.

Yet the Swans have stolen a march on their opponents by securing an early January deal to take Brewster on loan for the rest of the season.

The Athletic's Stuart James shared the news on Twitter, revealing that the loan will be completed today after the two clubs agreed a deal last week - only for the Reds to put the deal on hold in order to allow Brewster the chance to feature in their squad for their FA Cup win over Everton yesterday.

Swansea were favourites to land Brewster from the off, thanks to his existing relationship with manager Steve Cooper.

Cooper managed Brewster in England under-17s triumphant World Cup campaign in 2017, with the striker landing the golden boot award to help his country win the tournament.

Whilst Brewster was on the Robins' list of strikers they were monitoring, it is unlikely he was the first-choice target in January.

Eddie Nketiah is still available from Arsenal following his recall from Leeds, and they have recently become linked with Scottish striker James Scott.
