Swansea City Supporters' Trust welcome Steve Cooper and send message to club over transfers

Swansea City Supporters' Trust have welcomed the appointment of Steve Cooper as the club's new head coach.

Following a three-week search, Cooper was confirmed as Graham Potter's replacement on Thursday following a thorough interview process. He will be joined in SA1 by assistant Mike Marsh.

Cooper will meet the press next week.

In the meantime, the supporters' trust have issued a statement regarding the new man,  stating their approval of the move - and urged the club to keep the core of its talented young group together.

Daniel James has left for Manchester United already this summer, with several other first-team stars coveted by top-flight sides. However, chairman Trevor Birch moved to play down mass departures in his address to fans last month.

The trust also revealed they weren't directly involved in the interview process of appointing the Pontypridd-born man, but added they were kept abreast of developments by Birch.

In a statement entitled "Croeso!" they wrote: "The Swansea City Supporters’ Trust would like to welcome our new head coach Steve Cooper and assistant first-team coach Mike Marsh to our football club.

"We are happy that the club has looked to appoint a manager with an ethos in developing young players and will look to continue the work done last season in regaining our footballing identity.

"The Trust can confirm that, whilst not directly involved in the interview process, our supporter director Stuart McDonald has been kept fully updated by club chairman Trevor Birch throughout the process.

"The Trust would like to wish Steve and Mike all the best for the coming season and we are confident that, so long as the club can ensure we retain our talented young squad and strengthen where possible, they will be successful in their new roles."
