Swansea City striker Liam Cullen to miss Reading and Watford matches after positive coronavirus test

Swansea City striker Liam Cullen has tested positive for coronavirus.

The Wales Under-21 international missed the 2-0 triumph over Queens Park Rangers last time out after displaying symptoms of Covid-19.

Cullen trained at Swansea's Fairwood complex on Christmas Day but developed a loss of smell after the session.

In line with government guidelines, Cullen immediately went into self-isolation and did not travel with the squad to QPR.

He was tested on the morning of his side's victory over Mark Warburton's side at The Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, and the test came back positive.

The 21-year-old - who is currently feeling well and is showing no signs of illness - will self-isolate for 10 days, meaning he will miss the Championship matches with Reading and Watford.

Speaking about Cullen after his side's victory against QPR, Steve Cooper said: "He's got Covid symptoms, so we haven't taken any risks with him.

"He's been very professional in how he's reported, and it's the world we're living in, isn't it.

"We had to manage that, and it's a pity for Liam missing out, but as long as he stays safe and well.

"He's actually feeling OK, but he's got the loss of smell."

Cullen read the coronavirus criteria on close contacts and was able to confirm he did not come into close contact with team-mates during their Christmas Day training session.

Sessions held before Swansea's matchdays - which coaches call "walk-through sessions" - have limited contact anyway, with much of the work consisting of basic fitness and football drills.

Cullen is now the third first team Swansea player to test positive for coronavirus after Viktor Gyokeres and Jordon Garrick both contracted Covid-19 in November.
