Swansea City star Yan Dhanda signs new contract as Steve Cooper charged by FA over Blackburn referee comments

Swansea City starlet Yan Dhanda has signed a contract extension with the club.

The former Liverpool youngster scored with his first touch in professional football when he fired home the winner against Sheffield United on the first day of last season.

Dhanda’s previous deal had been due to expire at the end of the current campaign, but he has committed his future to the club for the next two seasons.

The 21-year-old midfielder joined the Swans on a free transfer during the summer of 2018, after leaving Anfield.

He has made 15 first-team appearances in total, with nine of them coming this season under head coach Steve Cooper.

The most recent of those came in the 3-1 win over Middlesbrough, while Dhanda was on the scoresheet in the win at Charlton back in October.

Meanwhile, Cooper has been charged by the FA following his comments about referee Jeremy Simpson in the aftermath of the game against Blackburn.

"Steve Cooper has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3.

"It is alleged that comments made by the manager following an EFL Championship fixture against Blackburn Rovers on Weds 11 December 2019 constitute improper conduct in that they question the integrity of the match officials and/or bring the game into disrepute.

"He has until Friday 27 December 2019 to provide a response."
