Swansea City star Wayne Routledge was one of a number of players to be officially released by the club on Saturday.
The blow came on the same day it emerged Graham Potter is to quit SA1 in favour of Brighton.
The 34-year-old has been with the Swans since 2011 and has become a firm favourite on the wing, scoring five goals from 22 Championship appearances this season after a renaissance of some note.
Now, he has issued a message to Swans fans.
However, as reported by WalesOnline on Saturday , Routledge could yet pull on a Swansea shirt again despite being released. It is understood that a fresh approach could yet be made to keep the player in south Wales later in the summer, but the club are keen to assess their financial situation first.
Speaking about his future last month, Routledge said: "Hopefully with a bit of luck we can sort something out.
"I've been here a long time and I've got my family here. I'm sure we'll have talks and see what can be done."
His choice of the word 'If' in his message to fans will surely be seen to be an optimistic take on the situation.
Routledge's message was met with praise and best wishes from fans and team-mates alike.
The confirmed departures also include the likes of captain Leroy Fer, Martin Olsson, Luciano Narsingh and Wilfried Bony, all of whom have also seen their deals expire.
