Swansea City star reveals he wants to stay as contract runs out in weeks

Wayne Routledge says he's hopeful of extending his stay at Swansea City beyond the end of the season.

The 34-year old's current deal at the Liberty Stadium runs out this summer, and boss Graham Potter has previously suggested he was open to the winger staying on at the club.

Routledge, who joined from Newcastle United back in 2011, is one of several senior heads in an otherwise very youthful Swansea dressing room.

And he believes he still has plenty to offer Potter's side, who saw their slim hopes of a place in the Championship play-offs officially ended with a 2-2 draw at home to Hull City at the weekend.

He told the BBC : "Hopefully with a bit of luck we can sort something out.

"I've been here a long time and I've got my family here. I'm sure we'll have talks and see what can be done."

It remains to be seen just how active Swansea will be in the summer transfer window, with the club's latest accounts showing just how hard they've been hit by the cost of relegation.

Swansea vs Hull post-match reaction

Swansea's owners insist they are "committed to providing the resources necessary for investment in players, coaches and management", but there will nevertheless be plenty of concern from fans, having already witnessed two desperately disappointing transfer windows.

However, despite the financial difficulties surrounding the club, Routledge insists the club are in good hands under Potter.

"It's a rebuilding exercise and it's just the best way of going about it really," Routledge added.

"There's a lot of moving parts and things will happen that you like and things will happen that you don't like.

"It all depends on what happens in the summer and we go from there.

"The ideas are slowly being embedded into the team and you can see that the fans enjoy it more.

"The players enjoy playing it and it's a good workplace - everyone comes in every day and enjoys themselves."
