Swansea City sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman on loan

Swansea City have signed Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman on loan.

The 22-year-old stopper has signed a contract extension with the Magpies and will now spend the 2019-20 campaign with Steve Cooper's side.

A deal was sealed late on Wednesday evening for Woodman, who is said to be desperate for game-time.

Two Championship clubs were battling for his services, but it is Cooper who has won the battle to work with the youngster.

This is Woodman's fifth loan deal during his time on Tyneside, having previously played with Hartlepool, Crawley Town, Kilmarnock and Aberdeen.

It throws into doubt what will happen with the three first-team keepers already on Swansea's books, with Kristoffer Nordfeldt, Erwin Mulder and Steven Bender already vying for the No.1 spot.

Woodman is unlikely to be a back-up option, meaning one stopper could be leaving before next Thursday's deadline.
