Swansea City's transfer stance on Blackburn Rovers defender Derrick Williams

Swansea City have shown an interest in Blackburn Rovers defender Derrick Williams this summer.

However, it's unlikely they will now make a move for the 27-year-old given that they are are set to sign Jamal Lowe.

The Swans are set to pay Wigan Athletic in the region of £800,000 plus add-ons for winger Lowe.

And it means they are now unlikely to have more funds to spend in the summer transfer window, unless they can reduce the wage bill by offloading players first.

Freddie Woodman and Morgan Gibbs-White have both joined the Swans on loan deals while Korey Smith arrived on a free transfer after being released by Championship rivals Bristol City earlier this month.

Germany-born centre-back Williams - who represents Republic of Ireland at international level - made 19 appearances in all competitions for Blackburn last term, scoring three goals.

He started his career with Aston Villa and then spent three years with Bristol City before joining Rovers in 2016.

Williams - who has one year left to run on his current contract at Ewood Park - has more than 250 EFL appearances to his name.

It's understood Rovers would want a seven-figure sum for the defender.

The interest comes after Swansea lost experienced centre-back Mike van der Hoorn and Watford loan star Ben Wilmot this summer.

Marc Guehi is set to rejoin the club on loan from Chelsea.
