Swansea City's Russell Martin installed as second favourite for Norwich City job after Daniel Farke sacking with Chelsea legend and ex-Tottenham boss in running

Russell Martin has been installed as the second favourite to take charge of Norwich City following the sacking of Daniel Farke.

The Canaries parted company with Farke on Saturday, despite the fact that they claimed their first Premier League win of the campaign by beating Brentford 2-1.

The German - who twice led Norwich to promotion from the Championship - leaves the Carrow Road outfit rooted to the foot of the top-flight table.

And Swansea head coach Martin is the 10/1 second favourite to take up the hot-seat at Norwich, although he was as short as 6/1 shortly after Farke's exit was officially confirmed.

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is the early 10/11 favourite with Sky Bet while Steve Bruce - who was axed by Newcastle United last month - is the 12/1 third favourite.

Ex-Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo, Neil Warnock and Sam Allardyce are all at 16/1 while John Terry, Mark Robins and Nathan Jones are priced at 20/1.

Martin joined Norwich from Peterborough United in 2010 following a successful loan spell with the club.

The former defender made more than 300 appearances for the Canaries and gained three promotions during his time in Norfolk.

Norwich's sporting director Stuart Webber said: “In continuing to demand the very best for our football club, this decision was not an easy one.

“I know how determined Daniel and his staff were to succeed at this level, but we feel that now is the right time for a change to give ourselves the best opportunity of retaining our Premier League status.

“All at Norwich City should be forever grateful to Daniel and his staff for the significant role they have played in our journey. They helped deliver two Championship titles, many memorable moments and they all fully bought into our philosophy and what it means to be part of this football club.

“Daniel and his staff will always be welcome back here. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank them all for their hard work and wish them well for the future.

“It’s important that we now look forward. We have 27 league games remaining and a long way to go in the current season. We know we have the ability within our playing squad and staff to start picking up points and climbing the league table.”
