Swansea City's players return to training today and the message to them is clear

Swansea City return to pre-season training today with eager new boss Steve Cooper saying he can't wait to get started.

The players will arrive at Fairwood this morning, with a number meeting Cooper for the first time.

It heralds the start of a new era for Swansea, with Cooper also welcoming to his coaching team yesterday.

Martyn Margetson and David Tivey joined as first-team goalkeeping coach and fitness coach respectively as Cooper's plans begin to take shape.

“I cannot wait to get down it really, because working with the players is the best part of the job,” said the 39-year-old .

“The football club is about the players, what they can do on the pitch and how they impact upon the fans and community.

“We want to get that impact, to get the football club and the team doing good things and show the fans something they can relate to."

The message to Swansea players is clear. With the pre-season schedule now in place , the hard work starts now.

“The pre-season plans are in place, we know we have got plenty of fine tuning to do," Cooper added.

“But we are happy with what has been set-up in terms of fixtures and pre-season trips, it’s about maximising that and making sure when the season starts we are absolutely ready to go.”

The Swans will head to Spain on Sunday for a week-long training camp, which will include a training game against Mansfield in Portugal on Saturday, July 6.

There are a few members of the first team who will be missing on Thursday.

Jordan Ayew and Andre Ayew are both away - and scoring - at the Africa Cup of Nations, with others on international duty allowed extra time off.

Joel Asoro, Kristoffer Nordfeldt and Bersant Celina set to fly out to the team's training camp in Spain to meet with the rest of the squad early next week.

While away, Cooper's troops will take on League Two outfit Mansfield Town in a training match at the Complexo Desportivo in Vila Real de Santo António, Portugal on July 6.

And after a fortnight of training back on home soil, the Swans play the first of four pre-season fixtures in the United Kingdom when they take on Crawley Town at the Broadfield Stadium on Saturday, July 13.

Seven days later, Cooper's side battle it out with Exeter City before taking on Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium at 7:45pm on Tuesday, July 23.

And they round off their pre-season schedule with a clash against Serie A side Atalanta at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday, July 27.
