Swansea City's Borja Baston declares big future update after dream start to the season

Swansea City striker Borja Baston has said he is going to stay with the club.

The Spaniard has started all three Championship games this season for Steve Cooper's side, scoring three goals including a brace in the 3-2 win over Preston on Saturday.

The club had made no secret of wanting to sell Baston this summer, with the side needing to get players earning big wages off the books to balance the finances.

But after Oli McBurnie's departure, Baston has remained in SA1 and the 26-year-old has revealed he intends to stay.

"Two years ago I couldn't show my qualities, now I will," Borja told BBC Sport afterwards.

"I am happy in Swansea, I am playing, I score goals and I don't have to say any more... I am going to stay.

"I'm enjoying it a lot and I hope the fans are enjoying it with me. The fans are amazing, I think they are some of the best fans in the Championship."

The turnaround is a far cry from his first three seasons with the Swans.

A torrid first campaign with Swansea in the Premier League saw him score just once despite arriving as the club's record signing in a £15.5m deal from Atletico Madrid, before spending the two following campaigns on loan in his native Spain.

“Goals bring confidence and I am working hard on the training ground; that is showing on the pitch,” he told the club website.

“I am so happy to score two goals and to help the team get the win.

“I really enjoy playing at the Liberty. When we play at home, we are attacking and that is better for me.

“We played very well in the second half and, as a result, the team were able to create more chances for me to score.”

“I can really feel the love of the fans when I hear them singing my name and, for me, that is very important.

“This year, I must show them what I can do.”
