Swansea City's Bersant Celina transfer fee explained and the sum Man City missed out on

Bersant Celina completed his move from Swansea City to Dijon this week.

The Kosovan has left the Swans on a permanent basis, signing a four-year contract with the French club.

Celina joined Swansea from Man City for a fee in the region of £3m during the 2018 summer transfer window.

As for his exit, Dijon paid just shy of £3m in a deal that includes add-ons to take the attacker from South Wales to France.

And WalesOnline understands Swansea would have owed Celina's former club Man City a significant chunk of cash if they received the same fee or more from Dijon as they paid Pep Guardiola's side for the playmaker two years ago.

It means that given the structure of the deal for Celina's exit, Swansea - once performance related add-ons are included - could potentially scoop marginally more than what they paid Man City for the 24-year-old as opposed to losing close to £1m had they accepted a slightly higher transfer fee.

The 22-cap Kosovo international was a key figure under Graham Potter in what was Swansea's first season in the Championship since gaining promotion under Brendan Rodgers during the 2010/11 campaign.

However, his influence waned under Steve Cooper last term, with the No. 10 failing to start in any of Swansea's 11 post-lockdown Championship fixtures.

Celina left Swansea having scored 10 goals in his 79 appearances for the club.
