Swansea City's Alan Tate banned and fined £920 for 'violent conduct' after neck grab on Birmingham City's Jon Toral

Swansea City coach Alan Tate has been banned from the touchline for four matches after his fiery clash with Birmingham midfielder Jon Toral in the recent clash at the Liberty Stadium

The former Swans skipper admitted breaching FA rules at a disciplinary hearing and was also fined £920.

The FA announced the news on Wednesday morning after Tate had pleaded guilty to the charge in front of him.

He is suspended from the touchline for the home clashes against Millwall and Huddersfield, as well as the Swans' away games at Coventry and Bristol City.

The FA statement read: "His behaviour at half time of the EFL Championship fixture against Birmingham City FC on 19 September 2020 amounted to improper and violent conduct."

Tate clashed with Toral as the teams left the pitch at half-time during the 0-0 draw and it always seemed likely he would find himself in hot water with the authorities.

Tate shoved the Birmingham player to the ground in the game's major flashpoint as the pair exchanged words. Footage of the incident showed Tate raising his arm to the neck area of Toral before shoving him.

The incident prompted players and coaches to surround Tate, although tempers were quickly cooled.

However, the FA have taken action after saying Tate breached FA Rule 3, covering technical area occupants and tunnel incidents.
