Swansea City rival Nottingham Forest for French defender as Sheffield Wednesday dealt blow in race for former Cardiff City ace

Championship duo eye centre-back

Almeria centre-back Mathieu Peybernes is said to be the subject of interest from both Nottingham Forest and Swansea City.

That is according to Spanish media outlet Marca , who report that both Forest and the Swans are keen to bolster their defensive options with the addition of the 29-year-old.

It is claimed that both clubs have put "firm offers" on the table for the defender, but could see their hopes of signing him dented by Peybernes’ desire to remain in Spain.

Getafe are the club claimed to be leading the race for him, with their interest in the centre-back dating back a lot further than both Forest’s and Swansea’s.

O’Neill plays down McClean exit talk

Stoke City manager Michael O’Neill has played down the prospect of winger James McClean leaving the club this summer, amid rumours that Scottish giants Celtic are interested in securing his services.

The former West Bromwich Albion ace has been on the books of the Potters since 2018 and has been heavily linked with a move to Celtic throughout the summer transfer window.

However, Stoke chief O’Neill has now dismissed the prospect of him leaving the club before the window closes, insisting it is nothing more than just a rumour.

"I think that’s probably just a rumour that’s been created by someone – and it certainly hasn’t come from our end", O’Neill told The Stoke Sentinel .

"James isn’t a player, equally, that we are looking to lose at this minute in time."

West Brom name Zohore price

Premier League outfit West Bromwich Albion will demand £8m if they are to let go of Danish striker Kenneth Zohore before the window closes, according to The Athletic .

Zohore, who joined the Baggies from Cardiff City little more than a year ago, is being linked with an exit from the Hawthorns before the window closes, most notably to Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls, who are looking to climb their way back to zero points after starting the campaign on minus 12, are desperate to add another striker to their ranks, as manager Garry Monk looks to create competition for places.

However, the Owls may have now seen their hopes of signing Zohore scuppered due to the Baggies’ demands.

Capoue poised for Watford exit

Watford midfielder Etienne Capoue is poised to leave the Vicarage Road club before the window closes to join Spanish outfit Valencia.

According to Football Insider , the former Tottenham Hotspur man is set to join the La Liga club in a loan-to-buy deal.

Should the 32-year-old finalise a switch to Valencia it would see him reunited with former Hornets boss Javi Gracia.

Capoue, like a whole host of other big-name players still on Watford’s books, has played no part in their first four games in league and cup this season.
