Swansea City respond to £50m takeover talk amid rumoured Middle East interest

Swansea City have quashed talk of a potential takeover of the club following reports that they were the subject of interest from a Middle East consortium.

The Sun recently claimed the consortium were putting together a bid worth around £50m to purchase the Swans.

The article also stated that Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan were keen to see Swansea make a return to the Premier League, although it claimed they would be more willing to negotiate a sale if a promotion push wasn't on the cards.

The American duo - who took control of Swansea in 2016 - have not expressed a desire to sell the club.

And Swansea have stated that there have been no discussions or negotiations regarding the possible sale of the club amid the latest reports.

It remains to be seen which figures make up the consortium reportedly interested in buying Swansea, with that particular detail being omitted from the original national media report.

Levien and Kaplan watched Swansea under Steve Cooper for the first time when the Swans beat Charlton Athletic 2-1 at The Valley in October.

The victory briefly took Swansea back to the summit of the Championship standings.

That evening in London saw Cooper meet the American duo for only the second time, with their previous meeting taking place across the Atlantic before the 2019/20 campaign got underway.

Speaking about his relationship with the pair, Cooper said: "I speak to them regularly, at least once a week.

"Obviously the main port of call is Trevor (Birch) who is running the club over here.

"We're all joined up with open communication and they're allowing me and Trevor to get on with the football which is the nice bit."
