Swansea City player ratings as woeful defence sums up Nottingham Forest loss

Russell Martin's Swansea City endured a tough 4-1 home defeat to a Nottingham Forest side managed by Steve Cooper on Saturday.

Here's how the Swans rated:

BEN HAMER 4

Good in possession once again and didn't actually have a real save to make in the first half. But he made a horrible error to gift Brennan Johnson the chance to score and looked nervy after that. Beaten at the near post for the fourth goal too.

BEN CABANGO 4

Moved to the left of Swansea's back three, Cabango was given a torrid time by fellow Wales international Brennan Johnson. He got away with a loose pass in the first half, but Johnson got the better of him as Lewis Grabban netted. Stuttered as Forest scored a fourth too. Very tough day.

FLYNN DOWNES 5

Operating at the heart of the back three in the absence of Kyle Naughton, Downes was impressive on the ball and, despite being booked early on, defended well when required. Great long ball for Joel Piroe's first-half chance, although he lost his composure after Swansea went behind.

RYAN BENNETT 5

Made a stunning block in the first half to keep the score goalless. But was unable to help stem the tide as Swansea collapsed in defence in the second half.

ETHAN LAIRD 5

Put in a teasing cross early on but had a few frustrating moments after that. A real shame to see him forced off injured before the break.

KOREY SMITH 5

Decent enough in front of the back three. Did what was asked of him and was hauled off in the second half as Swansea went for broke.

MATT GRIMES 5

Made a few defensive interventions and passing range was solid as normal. Should have had an assist for Olivier Ntcham in the opening 45, although he couldn't make enough of an impact further up the pitch.

RYAN MANNING 4

On the fringes too often in the first half, but did manage to put a few crosses into the Forest box. Swansea needed more though, and Cabango needed more help too.

OLIVIER NTCHAM 4

Didn't really trouble Brice Samba with a few speculative efforts from distance in the opening 45 but spurned a great chance from Grimes' free-kick. Decent effort late on, but Swansea badly need more from the Frenchman.

JAMIE PATERSON 4

Quiet for long spells but gave Swansea far more attacking impetus when he got on the ball. Joel Piroe badly needed more openings though.

JOEL PIROE 6

The Dutchman was on the fringes for long periods but spurned a glorious chance just before half time. Got his 12th of the campaign to get Swansea back into it before firing just wide soon after.

Substitutes

Joel Latibeaudiere (for Laird) - Decent in possession, but didn't offer the attacking threat Laird does. Spurned a golden chance to score late on. 5

Michael Obafemi (for Smith) - Didn't really cause many problems as Forest defended deep. 5
