Swansea City have parted company with sporting director Mark Allen.
The Welshman joined the Swans in January 2021 and was tasked with spearheading the club’s academy. He was promoted to the role of sporting director last summer and has worked in tandem with Russell Martin throughout the head coach’s debut campaign at the Swansea.com Stadium.
However, it has emerged that Allen has been axed by the Swans who are now seeking a replacement for the former Man City and Rangers chief. Club sources suggest chief executive Julian Winter - who brought Allen to Swansea - has been unimpressed with Allen’s performance in the role. The pair are thought to have been unable to agree on numerous behind-the-scenes matters, some regarding the January transfer window.
Winter is expected to publicly address the situation in due course.
Allen openly spoke about his ambitions to help Swansea return to the Premier League and he was instrumental in the club’s recruitment process during the two most recent transfer windows. He has also attended a fans’ forum as recently as this month in Port Talbot, such has been his commitment to the cause.
He was also been working on Swansea's transfer plans for next season, with Martin revealing just a week ago that the chief had been in conversations with a number of agents regarding potential signings.
