Swansea City one of several clubs eyeing free transfer for former Southampton defender - reports

Swansea City are one several clubs plotting a move for Peterborough United defender Ryan Tafazolli.

That's according to Football Insider , who claim the 27-year old, whose contract runs out this summer, ticks plenty of boxes for Liberty Stadium chiefs as they look to bolster their defensive options ahead of the coming season.

The 6ft 4ins colossus has earned himself a reputation as one of the best defenders outside the top two divisions in England, and has attracted interest from the Championship before.

And it's understood that the Swans could face competition if they are to complete a move, with a number of clubs also believed to be interested.

The uncertainty surrounding the manager's position at SA1 is also unlikely to count in the Swans' favour, although it's understood that Swansea City play down threat of player exodus as Graham Potter edges closer to Brighton hot seat will not prevent the club making plans for transfers in the coming window.

The club's budget for the summer remains unclear, with the hierarchy still hoping to get several more big earners out the door before finalising a budget for this window.

As a result, it would arguably make sense to look at players that won't command a transfer fee, and Tafazolli may well be seen as a strong option.

The former Southampton man made 47 appearances for the Posh last season as they earned themselves a seventh-placed finish in League One.

Another free agent they are reportedly interested in is Lawrence Shankland, who has confirmed his Ayr United exit .
