Swansea City monitor free agent market as Russell Martin makes squad admission

Swansea City are monitoring the free agent market with a view to potentially bolstering their squad before the January transfer window.

The Swans brought in nine players during the course of the summer, although a number of key stars from last season - including Andre Ayew, Freddie Woodman, Connor Roberts, Marc Guehi and Jamal Lowe - have departed.

The summer transfer window closed at 11pm on August 31, although clubs can still sign out-of-contract players.

Russell Martin's men brought in Olivier Ntcham after deadline day following his release from Celtic ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

And Swansea head coach Martin has said the club will assess potential free agents over the coming weeks and months.

"There's always areas you want to improve, but we have a fairly big squad," admitted Martin.

"It's still a little bit imbalanced, the squad, in terms of the amount we have in certain positions and the amount we have in others.

"That's not going to be fixed in one transfer window, it's going to take two or three. I'm not naive to think we were going to sort it all in the last window after being here for four weeks.

"If anyone becomes available that we really think improves us, then it's something to discuss.

"We've looked at the list of people out of contract, and there might be guys who come in and train that we can have a look at if they're willing to do that, but at the moment we're happy with what we've got."
