Swansea City miss out on free transfer for former Tottenham starlet

Swansea City have missed out on a move for free agent Ruben Lameiras.

The Portuguese playmaker has left Plymouth Argyle to sign a four-year deal with Primeira Liga newcomers FC Famalicao, rejecting the offer of a new contract at Home Park.

The 24-year old has been linked with a number of clubs this summer, including Swansea City , Charlton Athletic and Bordeaux.

Reports had previously suggested that the Swans had entered talks with the player, but the Lisbon-born star has decided to return to his homeland this summer.

Famalicao were promoted to the top flight last term after finishing as runners-up to Pacos de Ferreira in the second division.

The former Tottenham youngster is understood to have been keen on moving back to Portugal, despite apparent offers to stay in England.

After completing his move, he told the official club website : "I'm pleased to return to my country because it was a goal to play in the Primera Liga.

"I think I'm going to adapt very well to Portuguese football. Famalicao is managed by ambitious people like me."
