Swansea City linked with West Ham sensation who bossed Arsenal's Mesut Ozil on debut

Swansea City are monitoring West Ham defender Reece Oxford's situation as they weigh up a season-long loan, according to reports.

The 20-year-old looks set to leave West Ham this summer, with German club Augsburg attempting to salvage a permanent deal.

The centre-back spent last season on loan at the Bundesliga outfit but talks had broken down over a relegation release clause.

Sky Sports understands that a deal may be back on after he dropped demands for the release clause, with negotiations reportedly re-opening last week as Augsburg ponder a £2.7m move.

However, it is also understood that the Swans, along with Championship rivals Fulham, are monitoring developments in negotiations with both keen on a season-long loan.

Oxford first broke onto the scene four years ago, with a man-of-the-match performance on his Premier League debut in a 2-0 win over Arsenal in 2015.

He notably became the Premier League's second-youngest starter after Jose Baxter and impressed many by keeping Gunners star Mesut Ozil quiet.

However, in the following years, his development hasn't been as rapid as might have been expected.

Oxford has made just a handful of senior starts for the Hammers, with loans spells at Reading, Borussia Monchengladbach and Augsburg all following.
