Swansea City legend Alan Tate to oversee pre-season clash with Bristol Rovers as John Eustace poised to take hot-seat

Queens Park Rangers assistant John Eustace is on the brink of being confirmed as the new manager of Swansea City - but won't be in place for Saturday's friendly with Bristol Rovers.

The Swans have confirmed that first team coach Alan Tate will take charge of proceedings at the Memorial Ground, with Eustace likely to be confirmed as Steve Cooper's successor within the coming days.

Cooper left the club by mutual consent earlier this week, although chief executive Julian Winter admitted that the decision to part ways with the Welshman had actually been struck 'amicably' two weeks ago.

Questions also remain over the futures of several of Cooper's backroom team, although any changes are likely to depend on the wishes of the new boss.

Eustace, who will be taking his first managerial role since a two-year stint at Kidderminster, was actually on the shortlist to replace Graham Potter in 2019 shortly before Cooper was handed the job.

It's not yet clear if he intends to bring any members of staff with him to SA1.

Mike Marsh was a notable absentee during the friendly win over Plymouth, but is currently on compassionate leave and, as with his backroom colleagues, remains at the club.

Nevertheless, there will likely be a reshuffle of the coaching staff for Saturday's friendly across the Severn.

The club have confirmed that under-23s coach Anthony Wright has also temporarily joined the first-team staff, while Martin Davies continues as goalkeeping coach, with Martyn Margetson still yet to return to the club following his work with England at Euro 2020.
